" The Town of North Hempstead officials including myself and all of our Councilmembers as well as all of the village mayors and trustees throughout our town remain frustrated and angered by the delays we have been facing in getting power restored to our town residents.  We will continue to confront, challenge and demand that our utility do what is necessary to get this job done quickly and correctly.

 I must also report to you tonight that we are now preparing for another storm that will hit us tomorrow afternoon.  A NorEaster will come through our area with sustained winds of 20 to 30 mile an hour with gusts up to 60 miles/hour during this fast moving storm which should peak tomorrow night. 

Town comfort or warming centers will be open tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM and remain open until 9:00 PM or later depending on weather conditions. Town comfort centers are located in Westbury, New Hyde Park, Port Washington, Great Neck and Manhasset.  All town residents are welcome at any of our comfort centers.

Points of Distribution, or PODs, that provide water and ready to eat meals will be open from 9 AM tomorrow morning until 2:00 PM tomorrow afternoon.

While the Manhasset overnight shelter has been closed down, the county in conjunction with the Red Cross is planning on opening another overnight shelter tomorrow in North Hempstead located at the New Hyde Park High School.  The town will provide transportation from any of our warming centers to the overnight shelter upon request.

For all of our seniors or caregivers, North Hempstead’s Project Independence staff remain available to assist in any way that they can.
