Town Breaks Ground on Cat Shelter

Port Washington, NY - Supervisor Jon Kaiman, Councilman Fred Pollack, and Councilman Anthony D’Urso recently joined together to break ground on the highly-anticipated new cat shelter wing of the Town’s animal shelter located on Marion Avenue in Port Washington.

“I’d like to thank everyone who made this shelter become a reality,” said Supervisor Kaiman. “Without their help, we would not have been able to help save helpless animals that would otherwise be roaming the streets.”

            “Once the building is complete and the shelter is ready to function fully, both dogs and cats will be accepted,” added Councilman D’Urso.

            “This is an important addition to our program to help homeless cats,” Councilman Pollack said. “We have worked hard to open this shelter, and this is the first step toward that goal. “

            The North Hempstead Animal Shelter is located at 75 Marino Avenue, west of Port Washington Boulevard, and is open Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm and Saturdays 12:00pm to 4:00pm.  For more information please call the shelter at (516) 767-4614.

            State law requires all dogs to be licensed.  If you are a resident of the Town of North Hempstead, you can pick up a Dog License Application at the Town Clerk's Office at 200 Plandome Road in Manhasset, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm.  The Dog License Application is also available on our website (www.northempstead.com).   If you have any questions, please call the Town Clerk's Office at (516) 869-7655.
