Town Joins Indian Community Leaders to Announce Debut of Long Island’s India Day Parade
North Hempstead, NY– Symbolic of North Hempstead’s growing cultural diversity, Supervisor Jon Kaiman and members of the Town Board recently joined with a contingent of Indian residents to announce the debut of Long Island’s India Day Parade.
“You may be oceans removed from your homeland, but you still play such a vital role in our community,” Supervisor Kaiman told the group at the July 20 Town Hall reception. “We are very privileged to have such great leaders like you as part of our community.”
The August 11 event, revolving around the theme, Celebrating Democracy, will feature live music, floats, dance, and food. It will begin at 1:00pm in Hicksville at the intersection of Broadway Route 107 and Ludy Street.
India celebrates their Independence Day on August 15, in commemoration of its liberation from British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation on that day in 1947.
