TONH Officials Join With Federal, State, County Representatives and Local Families to Remember September 11 Fallen

Albertson, NY--Joined by federal, state and county officials, the Town of North Hempstead as well as family and friends of those lost nine years ago in the World Trade Center terrorist attacks, paid tribute to the September 11 victims in the annual memorial service at Clark Botanic Gardens in Albertson.

“We stand here once again united, to remember those we lost on that fateful day, and to pay respect to those who put themselves in harm’s way to save lives,” Supervisor Kaiman said in his welcoming remarks. “While we still live in a dangerous world, let there be no mistake, we are a strong and resilient people when we come together as one.”

Organized by Town Clerk Leslie Gross’ office, the memorial service honored the close to 3,000 innocent victims who died as a result of the attacks, including 59 Town of North Hempstead residents.

“It’s always an honor to organize North Hempstead’s 9/11 memorial service,” Gross said in her opening remarks. “We must continue to come together to collectively say, ‘We will never forget.’”

The ceremony on a sun-drenched Saturday morning included a poem by Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel and memorial readings by the Town Council members, Viviana Russell, Thomas K. Dwyer, Angelo P. Ferrara, Maria C. Poons, Lee R, Seeman and Fred L. Pollack.

Receiver of Taxes, Charles Berman, delivered the Pledge of Allegiance.
