North Hempstead Facilities to Remain Temporarily Closed
Essential Services will still be provided

North Hempstead, NY - In the interest of preventing the spread of coronavirus, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth has announced that all Town facilities will continue to remain closed to the public until Monday, April 20. While all Town buildings and parks are currently closed to the public, essential services are continuing to operate as the Town maintains the continuity of government with many of its employees working remotely. Please note that the Town's 311 Call Center remains open to callers seven days a week.

"It is imperative that residents refrain from gathering together in large groups as we attempt to flatten the curve here in North Hempstead and across Long Island," said Supervisor Bosworth. “To that end, we will continue to close Town facilities to the public as a necessary precautionary measure to protect the health and welfare of everyone in our Town."

As the Town continues to navigate through this public health emergency, all Town parks including playgrounds, sports fields, and bathrooms will remain closed to the public. This also includes Town beaches and the Town Dock.

All Department of Community Services' programming will remain canceled through May 16. These closures will help prevent the gathering of large groups and congregation of people in close proximity to each other.

Additionally, the Town will be closing the Sunday Residential Drop Off at the North Hempstead Transfer Station through April 26.

The Office of the Receiver of Taxes has temporarily suspended in-person services in an abundance of caution and to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. Residents are asked to make tax payments through the online payment system or through mail. Additionally, there will be no local community tax collection sites this Spring. Residents may pay their taxes online at northhempsteadny.gov/Tax-Payments.

The Town has also requested Governor Cuomo to extend the deadline to pay the 2nd Half 2019-2020 School property tax deadline past May 11 and are currently awaiting the decision.

The Department of Services for the Aging's (DOSA) programming remains canceled. The department is continuing to answer all services requests, and book taxi rides for food and medical transportation. Nurses and Social workers will continue to connect with residents to provide vital services such as mental health initiatives, meals on wheels, entitlements, as well as providing over-the-phone wellness checks.

On behalf of local fire departments, the Town wants to remind residents who suspect that they have COVID-19 to avoid calling 911 or going to the hospital unless their symptoms are severe. If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to schedule an appointment to be tested, please contact your healthcare provider or the New York State coronavirus hotline at 1-888-364-3065. The Town also encourages residents to check in any neighbors who they believe may be vulnerable or are not receiving notifications and updates.
