Town Holds the Line on Taxes for 2008

North Hempstead’s Budget Continues Legacy of Strong Finances

Manhasset, NY – Supervisor Jon Kaiman announced this week that the Town would be slightly reducing the tax-which will effectively hold the line on taxes for 2008. The proposed 2008 budget is a continuation of North Hempstead’s well-recognized strong financial practices - which have led to the highest bond rating in Town history - as well as an ongoing commitment to service improvements and enhancements.

“I am proud to announce that the Town will be holding the line on taxes for 2008,” said Supervisor Kaiman. “Based on sounds, conservative fiscal practices we have controlled spending while increasing services for our residents.”

Among the highlights of the 2008 plan: increased support for Project Independence, the nationally-acclaimed program coordinated by North Hempstead’s Community Services Department which helps seniors remain self sufficient in their homes and communities; the addition under town control of eight new parks and a number of miles of roadway transferred from Nassau County; and the development of the Town’s first Internal Audit unit, which will improve accountability and add a new dimension to our TownStat performance management program.

“This administration’s innovative approaches to enhance and improve services is matched by our successful efforts to fund these programs with as much support from other levels of government as we can,” Kaiman added. “Since I became Supervisor in January of 2004, we have won more than $25 million dollars in grants, awards and allotments from Federal, State, County and private sources.

“This budget represents our commitment to provide smart, efficient and effective government to every resident,” concluded Supervisor Kaiman.
