Supervisor Bosworth, Council Member Russell Invite Residents to Celebrate Black History Month

North Hempstead, NY -
North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Council Member Viviana Russell, and the Town Board will host a celebration in honor of Black History Month on Thursday, February 6 at 6 p.m. at the “Yes We Can” Community Center in Westbury.

The theme of this year’s event is “African Americans and the Vote” celebrating the centennial of the Nineteenth Amendment and the women’s suffrage movement and the 150 years since the Fifteenth Amendment which allowed African American men to ballot after the Civil War.

The event will feature a cocktail hour with refreshments provided by Pleasure Pot of Westbury and entertainment from the Salvation Army Brass Band. Live music and performances from the “Yes We Can” Kids with a keynote address by New York State Attorney General Letitia James. In addition, Supervisor Bosworth and the Town Board will be honoring individuals who have made an impact on the fight for minority voting rights.
