Supervisor Bosworth and Town Board Approve Overnight Parking for Port Washington First Responders

North Hempstead, NY – The most recent Town Board meeting on May 8 was the first of several board meetings that will be conducted at Clinton G. Martin Park, while the Town Hall elevator is out of service due to needed repairs.

At the May 8 meeting Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board passed a resolution allowing first responders with parking permits to park for up to seventy-two (72) hours for in spaces regulated by the Port Washington Public Parking District. The Port Washington Parking District does not allow any overnight parking, but with the approval of this resolution, any first responder who shows proof that they work overnight shifts, can park in designated spots overnight. The resolution was proposed by Council Member Dina De Giorgio.

Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Bosworth and the Town Board also set a date for hearings on a number of items, including the establishment of a procedure for the revocation and suspension of plumbing and electrical license following a due process and extending a building moratorium for the Port Washington waterfront business district until November 1, 2018.

The board also awarded a bid for a $96,000 streetscape project for Main Street in Port Washington and for the environmental and engineering design services for Whitney Pond Park stream bank restoration design. Also approved: an agreement between the Town of North Hempstead and the towns of Oyster Bay, Hempstead, Huntington, Babylon, Islip, Smithtown and Brookhaven for cooperative services in times of emergency; and an amendment prohibiting Town employees from participating in town auctions.

The next Town Board meeting will be held on June 5 at 7 p.m. at CGM in New Hyde Park. The May, June and July Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) meetings will be moving to Michael J. Tully Park in New Hyde Park. For more information, please call 311 or 516-869-6311 from outside the Town.
