Advisory Committee to Assist Town in Drafting Gas-Powered Landscaping Equipment Legislation

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board are pleased to announce the creation of an advisory committee to help draft a local law that will regulate gas powered landscape equipment. The advisory committee is made up of landscapers, environmentalists and residents.

After concerns from residents about the noise and pollution caused by gas-powered landscaping equipment, the Town began the process of drafting legislation to regulate the use of the equipment. Numerous municipalities across the country, including many in New York, have passed legislation that either bans or restricts the use of gas-powered landscaping equipment.

A hearing to consider a proposed regulation went before the Town Board in September 2017, but the hearing remained open, so that an advisory committee could be put in place. The advisory committee will now work together with the Town Attorney’s office so that the Town can hear everyone’s thoughts on the key aspects of the law.

“The goal of this advisory committee will be to give input and suggestions so that we can proceed with a wide range of knowledge,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “We are proceeding on this issue with thoughtfulness and patience. I am confident that the critical input of this advisory committee will enable us to draft legislation that will improve the quality of life for all residents.”

Once a revised law has been drafted, the Town will publish the date and continue the public hearing.
