North Hempstead Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 6th Straight Year

North Hempstead, NY – The Town of North Hempstead was recognized this week by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for its commitment to strong fiscal practices. The Town was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the sixth consecutive year for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended 2015.

The Town was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial standing.

“North Hempstead is honored to receive this prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the GFOA for a sixth year,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “We are committed to being open and transparent as well as fiscally responsible. The Town is always looking for ways to save money for our taxpayers.”

“North Hempstead’s Comptroller’s Office is pleased to once again receive this honor. It is a testament to the hard work that was put into providing a CAFR that meets the reporting standards of the GFOA,” said Town Comptroller Averil Smith.

The GFOA’s mission is to enhance and promote the professional management of governmental financial resources by identifying, developing, and advancing fiscal strategies, policies, and practices.

The GFOA of the United States and Canada is a non-profit professional association that serves approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
