North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town’s Business & Tourism Development Corporation (“BTDC”) will be hosting a breakfast seminar “The Business of Art: Round 3 – Art & Culture as a Tourism Destination” on Friday, September 16 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Harbor Links Club House, at 1 Fairway Drive in Port Washington.

This special presentation will feature a four-person panel with highly qualified professionals from the performing arts, visual art and marketing worlds. The seminar will teach downtown businesses how to connect with non-profit and private sector arts and culture venues, forming a destination network to attract tourists.

“The arts are an important part of North Hempstead’s rich culture. This seminar will serve as an excellent resource in teaching our local businesses how the arts can be used to boost our local economy and serve as a driver for the tourism market,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth.

The panel will be moderated by BTDC Executive Director Kim Kaiman, opening remarks will be provided by Supervisor Bosworth.

This seminar will feature four speakers who are familiar with making arts and culture a tourist destination on Long Island:

  • Alexandra Ainatchi (Owner of SUS Gallery, Middle Neck Road, Village of Great Neck Plaza) will discuss her role as an art gallery owner, selecting art and marketing her business to customers.

  •  Sharon Maier-Kennelly (Former Executive Director, Landmark on Main Street, Port Washington; Presently, General Manager & Director of Programming Initiatives, Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, LIU Post, Brookville, NY) will discuss how performing art venues attract patrons and team up with local restaurants and businesses through horizontal marketing to the benefit of capturing customers for all involved.
  • Theresa Statz-Smith (Executive Director, Long Island Arts Alliance [LIAA]) will discuss the Long Island Arts Alliance Tourism Initiative and their goal to turn the region’s creative economy into a tourism market.
  • Kristen Jarnagin (President & CEO, Long Island Convention & Visitors Bureau [LICVB] & Sports Commission) will discuss the history and funding of the Long Island Convention & Visitors Bureau and promoting Long Island’s tourist assets to local residents and to visitors from outside the region.
