Town Board Approves Contract for Former Nassau County Comptroller to Serve as Financial Consultant

North Hempstead, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth announced today that the Town Board has awarded a contract to former Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman to serve as financial consultant to the Town of North Hempstead. The contract will run until December 31, 2014.

Weitzman’s duties will include leading the comptroller’s office staff in preparing the budget, which is due in draft form by September 28, as well as overseeing the Town’s preparation for routine borrowing in October.

“The Town of North Hempstead is extremely fortunate to be gaining Howard Weitzman’s experience and expertise in finance, government and budgeting,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “His reputation for hard work, independence and integrity will make him a wonderful addition to our Town’s team of public servants. I am thrilled to welcome him aboard. I believe that it is an indication of his confidence in this administration that he wants to work with us to achieve my goal of finalizing a 2015 budget within the State budget cap by Election Day.”

“I look forward to the challenge of overseeing the preparation of the Town’s budget plan for 2015,” said Weitzman. “While we are all cognizant of the fiscal constraints placed on municipalities these days and I am confident that we will be able to present a sound and conservative spending plan on behalf of the Supervisor.”

Weitzman is a certified public accountant and served eight years as the Nassau County Comptroller. A former Mayor of Great Neck Estates, he and his wife Susan lived in that community for 35 years and raised three children. He is a former national healthcare partner of the accounting firm KPMG and later founded and served as chief executive of a healthcare financial services firm and a mail-service pharmaceutical company. A graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School and Queens College, Weitzman pursued management studies at Stanford University and Baruch College. He and his wife currently reside in North Hills.
