Supervisor Bosworth, Councilwoman De Giorgio on hand as Port Rowing Donates to Autism Speaks
North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio joined with representatives from Port Rowing on July 8th at North Hempstead Beach Park as Port Rowing made a donation to Autism Speaks of funds raised during the Town’s Third Annual Row for Autism event in April.
The Row for Autism was sponsored by U.S. Rowing the Town and included North Hempstead high school crew clubs racing against each other, as well as rowing races by those affected by autism. The event combined the love of rowing, and the need to raise awareness about the growing number of individuals with autism.
“The Town is extremely proud of the success of the third annual Row for Autism Event,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “Port Rowing has done a wonderful work in raising awareness and donating these funds to Autism Speaks, an organization that supports a cause that affects our community.”
Of the funds raised, 25% will go to Autism Speaks for LI, and the remainder will be used for the purchase of adaptive rowing equipment, which allows a disabled teenager to be paired with a typical teen mentor.
Councilwoman De Giorgio said, “Thank you to Port Rowing and Autism Speaks for a wonderful event and for their positive impact on the community.”
