Thousands Attend Annual North Hempstead Fireworks Commemoration
Town honors veterans including 100 year-old on his birthday

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board welcomed thousands to North Hempstead Beach Park this past Memorial Day weekend for the Annual Fireworks Commemoration Extravaganza honoring those who sacrificed their lives in defense of our nation.

Supervisor Bosworth opened up the program and detailed the history of Memorial Day and emphasized its importance. “For more than 200 years, Memorial Day has been a day in our nation when communities gather together for a day of parades and other celebrations with a patriotic theme,” she said. “We are honored to continue that tradition in North Hempstead.”

In addition to honoring all veterans, living and passed, Bosworth was joined by U.S. Congressman Steve Israel to recognize U.S. Navy World War II veteran Edmund Moores who celebrated his 100th birthday on the day of the event.

The program also featured the advancement of the colors by the U.S. Marine Corps and Nassau County Police Department Pipe and Drum band and the firing detail by the U.S. Volunteers of America followed by high energy musical performances by Mack and Soul and the LP’s, both playing rock and roll tunes.

Local students helped out this year as four Cub Scouts from the Herricks Cub Scout Pack 202 led the pledge of allegiance and Morgan Littman, a Colgate University student and Wheatley High School graduate, sang the national anthem.

Other elected officials in attendance included Town Clerk Wayne Wink, Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman and Council members Peter Zuckerman, Angelo Ferrara, Lee Seeman and Anna Kaplan.
