North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth announced today that she has appointed Town Clerk Wayne Wink as the new Chair of the Town’s Ecological Commission. The environmental task force, launched in 2008, is responsible for identifying new strategies for energy reduction and energy efficiency.

“Wayne has been such a terrific advocate for our environment throughout his public career,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “I can’t think of a better person to lead our diverse mix of government staff and citizen volunteers in pinpointing new ways to increase energy independence and boost economic growth.”

Some past accomplishments of the Ecological Commission include adopting a green energy policy aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and creating an energy policy as it relates to lighting and climate control.

Wink said, “I am looking forward to working with such a wonderful group of environmental advocates as we continue to provide residents with meaningful energy alternatives that save taxpayer dollars.”

Other members of the Ecological Commission include Fran Reid, the Town’s Chief Sustainability Officer; Patti Wood, the founder and executive director of Grassroots Environmental Education; and Patty Katz, who established the Reach Out America Green Committee.

Wink is succeeding Former Town Councilman Tom Dwyer, who led the Ecological Commission since its inception in 2008.
