Town of North Hempstead Fills Need on Pothole Repair
Pothole Filling Requests Now Accepted through New Mobile App

North Hempstead, NY – As one of the coldest winters in recent memory continues, the Town of North Hempstead Highway Department has been busy filling potholes across the Town as the frigid temperatures have played havoc with Town roads.

“Potholes can be very dangerous and can cause serious damage to vehicles,” Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said. “The Town and its Highway Department are committed to repairing potholes as quickly as possible to ensure safety for our residents.”

The Town has two ways of identifying the locations of potholes:

  1. Residents can call 311 or 516-869-6311 to notify the Highway Department of the location of a pothole. In that case, the Town guarantees the pothole will be filled within two business days.
  2. When the Highway Department is not busy plowing or salting and sanding roads, they proactively search for and fill potholes.
According to North Hempstead’s TownStat Department, for the first two months of this year, 172 potholes have been filled through 311 service requests and 74 potholes have been proactively filled, for a total of 246. That is up from 118 filled during the same time period a year ago.

In addition, pothole requests can be submitted through the “My North Hempstead” mobile app, introduced in January by Supervisor Bosworth. Residents can take a photo of the pothole and submit it to the Highway Department through the app. The app is now available in the iTunes and Android app stores.

Please note that the Town of North Hempstead can only address potholes on Town roads. However, any requests received for State, County or Village roads will be forwarded to the appropriate authority.
