North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center Hosts Basketball Clinic with NBA Star Nate Robinson and Welcomes Return of ‘Hoop it Up’ Tournament to Long Island

Westbury, NY
– North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman, and Town Councilwoman Viviana Russell, in conjunction with Fundamental Sports Training and Elite Youth Camps, is proud to announce that NBA star Nate Robinson will be conducting two three-hour basketball clinics at the North Hempstead’s “Yes We Can” Community Center on Friday, August 2nd. Robinson will train children ages 9 to 12 from 9am to 12pm and children ages 13-18 will be trained from 1pm to 4pm.

Robinson, currently of the NBA’s Chicago Bulls, has played in the NBA for eight years and is a 3-time NBA Slam Dunk Champion.

“This is a unique opportunity for young athletes to have a world-class basketball player as their trainer,” Supervisor Kaiman said. “This would not be possible without having a state-of-the-art facility like the ‘Yes We Can’ Center right here in North Hempstead.”

Town Councilwoman Viviana Russell said, “It is so exciting for the children of our community to be able to learn from a star professional athlete so close to home. I am proud to welcome Mr. Robinson into our Town and our Community Center.”

Nassau County Legislator Robert Troiano, who also represents this district, and was instrumental in the creation of the “Yes We Can” Center, said, “This is another example of the ‘Yes We Can’ Community Center bringing incredible opportunities to the children of this community that previously would not have been available.”

This is not the first-time an NBA player has visited the “Yes We Can” Center. Former New York Knick Marcus Camby was a special guest at the grand opening of the facility last September.

The brand new state-of-the-art 60,000 square foot “Yes We Can” Community Center is located at 141 Garden Street in Westbury. The facility has two NBA-sized basketball courts where the clinic will take place. Other features of the center include a fitness center, internet café, computer rooms, community meeting rooms, senior and teen lounges and more.
