ENVISIONING A NEW NEW CASSEL

The New Cassel Visioning Process was initiated through a five-day "charette" from July 25, 2002 through July 29, 2002 co-sponsored by the Town of North Hempstead and Unified New Cassel Community Revitalization Corporation (UNCCRC), the Town’s Community Development Agency, Nassau County, and Sustainable Long Island.  Approximately 600 New Cassel residents, government officials, and other community stakeholders worked with Daniel Burden, a consultant with the firm of Walkable Communities, to initiate development of a comprehensive plan for New Cassel's redevelopment involving mixed use housing, transit-oriented development, and downtown revitalization.

A Vision Plan spelling out this plan has been formulated and accepted by the Community Development Agency, the Town and UNCCRC.A celebration of the completion and acceptance of the Plan was held on March 31, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Westbury on Garden Street in New Cassel.
