Community Visioning

The Town sponsored a public visioning meeting April 10, 2006 to gather community input about Hillside Avenue between New Hyde Park Road and Hillside Park Drive. This first half of the meeting included a presentation explaining the visioning process and format for the evening as well as documenting the existing conditions within the project area. The initial existing conditions assessment highlighted five major topic areas: (1) parking, (2) traffic flow, (3) façade and signage, (4) commercial/retail opportunities, and (5) drainage issues.

After the presentation, community members, seated in small groups of approximately 8 - 10 people, discussed the existing conditions of the area. Community members were asked to consider the existing conditions that were presented and share their thoughts and concerns for 30 minutes. Following the brainstorming session, groups were asked to prioritize those concerns and list the top 5 concerns. Each group recorded its list of concerns on a survey.

The survey is being made available on-line to encourage the widest community participation in this process. We would appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey by listing your top five concerns about the existing conditions of this area.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call April Brown Lake, Director of Community Based Planning at 516-627-4062.
