Town Reminds Residents About Port Washington Parking District Services

North Hempstead, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio would like to remind residents about the services offered by the Port Washington Parking District.

The Port Washington Parking District and Pango Mobile Parking are working to implement a pilot program that will offer pay-by-phone technology that removes the need to deal with parking machines and takes the worry out of receiving a parking ticket. Pango offers users a quick and easy way to pay for parking and is available for iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Windows and other cell phones. Motorists still will have the ability to pay with quarters.

The Town is also currently looking to acquire a parking management software program that would allow commuters to apply for permits and vouchers through the Internet.

For security and efficiency reasons, the Port Washington Parking District is no longer accepting cash payments for parking permits and vouchers. Tender of payment is accepted through credit cards, checks, money orders and Commuter Check Card Prepaid MasterCard.

Currently the Town is adding more merchant parking spots, to help alleviate the need for parking in the downtown area. The new parking lot, located at 1070 Port Washington Boulevard, will house 27 additional spots.

Regular office hours for the Parking District are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. allowing District residents to purchase a yearly sticker parking permit, and monthly or daily vouchers. If a motorist is not available during those times, they should call 311.

To purchase a permit, the District resident must provide the following: a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and a utility bill dated within the last four months. Applicants must have their vehicle present at time of purchase for an annual permit.

The Port Washington Parking District has also established a Facebook page. This will enable residents to get live updates on closures, office hours and more. “Like” the Port Washington Parking District page at: www.facebook.com/portparkingnow. You may also visit the Port Parking District’s website at www.northhempsteadny.gov/portparking or sign up for e-mail blasts by emailing portparking@northhempsteadny.gov.

As always, you can contact 311 to report a broken meter or if you have any questions about the Parking District.
