Supervisor Bosworth Appoints New Sustainability Officer
Farmingdale native to oversee Town’s environmental programs

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth today announced the appointment of Erin Reilley as the Town’s new Chief Sustainability Officer. Reilley will take the post as of December 1.

Reilley, a resident of Farmingdale, has an extensive background in environmental protection including three years in the County Executive’s Office of Environmental Coordination and Nassau County Department of Public Works, where she among other things, implemented municipal environmental initiatives, including the $100 million Nassau County Environmental Programs Act.

In her position as Chief Sustainability Officer, Reilley will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Town’s sustainability goals, and will implement programs and policies that preserve and protect the Town’s natural resources.

“Preserving our environment, and developing new and innovative ideas in order to do so are among my administration’s key priorities,” Supervisor Bosworth said. “Erin has the experience, skill set and passion to lead our mission of making North Hempstead a green community for generations to come.”

Reilley will also lead the Town’s environmental education programs, including the robust 40,000 student School Recycling Partnership program which takes place at 9 of the 11 school districts in the Town. In addition, using her experience as grants administrator at the Glen Cove Community Development Agency for the past four years, she will work closely with the Town’s Grants Coordinator to identify opportunities for environmental grants from federal, state and county agencies.

Reilley graduated with a Masters in Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management from The New School, and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from the Colorado College. Reilley's appointment was approved unanimously at the November 18th Town Board meeting.
