Supervisor Judi Bosworth Announces Seventh Annual “Kids Safety Day”

North Hempstead, NY – The Port Washington Parking District is pleased to announce that hours will be extended on Thursday, September 18, for one evening only to help make the District’s services more accessible to District residents. The District will remain open until 7 p.m. to allow District residents to purchase a yearly sticker parking permit, monthly or daily vouchers.

“Our goal is to provide our residents with easy access to the Port Washington Parking District. In the future, we hope to extend hours and offer weekend hours,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “With these additional operating times, residents will have more options to purchase parking vouchers and permits.”

The extended hours are part of a pilot program and will become a permanent part of the Parking Districts’ hours if well-received. In addition, the Parking District is considering a plan to extend other weekday hours and hold weekend office hours to allow District residents greater accessibility to the District.

"Over the last several months I have been working with the parking committee and the Town to improve the Parking District. Offering commuters the convenience of evening and weekend hours is a good first step."

The Parking District owns and manages more than 10 parking lots in Port Washington, most designated exclusively for commuter use, as well as both on and off-street metered spaces to help alleviate parking congestion.

Metered spaces cost 25 cents per hour. On-street meter restrictions are in effect Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Off-street metered spaces are in effect Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with weekends free. Many meters contain a button (when pushed) which allows motorists 10 minutes of free parking. Parking restrictions are not in effect during federal holidays.

Regular office hours for the Parking District are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be extended hours on Thursday, September 18 as the office will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. to allow District residents to purchase a yearly sticker parking permit, monthly or daily vouchers.

To purchase a permit, the District resident must provide the following: a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and a utility bill dated within the last four months. Applicants must have their vehicle present at time of purchase for an annual permit.

The Parking District is located at 15 Vanderventer Avenue in Port Washington. If you see a broken parking meter or have a question related to the Parking District, please call 311 or (516) TOWN-311 from outside the Town of North Hempstead.
