Town Hosts MLB Pitch, Hit & Run Competition
Winners Have Chance to Play in a Major League Ballpark

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, the Town Board, the Town’s Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Roslyn Little League, are teaming up with Major League Baseball to host a local version of the popular “Pitch, Hit, and Run” competition. The event will take place Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 9:00am to 1:00pm at North Hempstead Beach Park, 175 West Shore Road in Port Washington.

Pitch, Hit, and Run is a FREE skills competition for boys and girls, ages seven to 14, where they are measured on their ability to pitch, hit, and run. The pitching portion will test a competitor’s ability to hit the strike zone from a designated distance. The hitting portion of the program will test how far and how accurately the player can hit a ball off a stationary tee. Finally, the running part of the event will measure foot speed via a sprint from the start line through home plate.

Supervisor Bosworth said, “It is so exciting to have one of our beautiful Town parks host such a prestigious event that allows young athletes from our community to have a chance to live the dream by playing at a Major League ballpark.”

This is the first round of the competition, with qualifiers reaching the sectionals, before having the opportunity to play at either Citi Field or Yankee Stadium in the third round. The final round will be held at Target Field in Minnesota as part of this year’s All-Star Game festivities.
