Town of North Hempstead to Host Workshop with PSEG Long Island on Port-Great Neck Overhead Transmission Project

North Hempstead, NY – The Town of North Hempstead will host a public information workshop on Monday, March 24th at 7:00 p.m. at the Harbor Links Clubhouse in Port Washington, regarding the ongoing PSEG Long Island Port Washington to Great Neck Overhead Transmission Project.

According to PSEG Long Island, the purpose of this project is to improve the reliability of electric service to the area by replacing 200 existing utility poles with taller, wider, and stronger poles capable of withstanding 130 mph winds, greater than what was experienced during Superstorm Sandy. PSEG Long Island’s reliability engineers assessed the customer demand in the area and determined that there is a critical need for the summer of 2014 for a new transmission circuit to reliably serve its customers in the area and to reduce the risks of customer outages.

Tree trimming and removal, where necessary, will also occur, as the height of the poles will go from approximately 40-45 feet to 80-85 feet in height.

“This project has generated a lot of interest from the Port Washington, Manhasset and Great Neck communities,” Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said. “This is a project that falls under the jurisdiction of PSEG Long Island. We are pleased to host this meeting in order to accommodate our residents and have their questions answered.”

PSEG Long Island will provide a brief overview on the project, followed by an informational session where booths will be staffed by experts on different topics including engineering, tree trimming and replanting, road closures and health concerns.
