The tax assessment system, based on 1938 construction costs, was outdated, so Nassau County reassessed all residential properties based on each property's market value and location. The county finalized a plan that appropriately meets the needs of Nassau residents. The new rates took effect beginning with the 2003–2004 School Tax. You may view your property and reassessment information at the Nassau County Assessor's Property Search Website. Enter property address or section, block and lot. Current assessment data is under "Values" on the menu (left side of screen). The Town of North Hempstead collects taxes, but does not set your property value. This is handled through Nassau County. Residents who disagree with their reassessment may challenge it through a formal review by filing a grievance during the next filing period Present - March 1, 2008.
