The Highway Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of 300 miles of Town roadways, including pavement and drainage maintenance, street sweeping, street sign installation and maintenance, street trees, snow removal, ice and flood control.
The Superintendent issues road opening permits for anyone (homeowners and/or contractors) planning to perform work within the Town's right-of-way. For more information click here.
Remember that the Town roadways are located in the unincorporated areas only, outside Village limit lines. If you live in one of the 31 Villages within the Town of North Hempstead please contact your local village hall. For information on Countyand State roadways please contact the appropriate agency.
