WAYNE WINK is currently serving his second term as Councilman for the Town of North Hempstead, having won election to the Town Board in November 2001.  Prior to his election, Wayne spent ten years as an aide to the Town and Nassau County government, as well as serving as a civic activist.  From an early age, he has had a thirst and fascination for local history and community issues, and has possessed a genuine passion for public service.  Town Hall is not unfamiliar to Wayne, and in his role as a public servant, he looks forward to working for the residents of the Town.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Wayne grew up here in Nassau County, graduating from the Uniondale public schools.  He received his BA in Political Science from Hofstra University and his JD from St. John's University.  Professionally, Wayne is an attorney, specializing in real estate law and litigation.  In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Hofstra University, with a concentration in American political systems.

GOVERNMENT AND LEGISLATIVE EXPERIENCE

As a government official, he was Deputy Counsel to the Nassau County Legislature.  Prior to that, he was a Legislative Assistant and Chief of Staff to the late Nassau County Legislator Barbara Johnson from 1996-1999 where he researched legal and policy issues and drafted legislation.

From 1992-1995, Wayne served as a Legislative Assistant to the Town Board in North Hempstead, where he drafted legislation, including amendments to the Town Zoning Code, Open Meetings Law, and other provisions of the Town Code.  He also represented the Town Board at various civic and governmental functions.  In addition, he oversaw constituent services and worked closely with various communities to help find solutions to assorted problems affecting the community.

His familiarity with the issues facing the Town of North Hempstead and Nassau County is also demonstrated by his involvement in civic affairs.  He has supervised several projects, including the 1996 Manhasset Bay Environmental Study, the Lacer Disc Personal Identification Program, and is currently active in the restoration of Baxter's Pond, Port Washington.  He was also a member of the Sheets' Creek Task Force and the Nassau County Sport Commission.
